With confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Los Angeles County topping 100,000 today — including 51 in Malibu — and a fear that space in local ICUs is running out, officials have decided to close county beaches, including all beaches in Malibu, over the Fourth of July weekend.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors today announced the closure of all county beaches, piers, beach bike paths and beach access points Friday through July 6. Violators face a $1,000 fine.

Fireworks are also prohibited.
