As Los Angeles County hit a daily record for COVID-19 cases — 4,592, according to public health officials — Malibu inched up to 70 confirmed cases.

Officials report two COVID-related deaths in Malibu.

The countywide case figure for the 24 hours ending 8 p.m. Wednesday surpassed by more than 300 the previous highest daily count of 4,244 from July 14.

All of this amid a backdrop of educators trying to figure out how best to do their job when school in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District  begins August 20.
