Belfast, Ireland native Geraldine Gilliland has always craved the exotic.
The day she arrived in the United States in 1975 — one of four school teachers on a vacation for their summer holiday — her thirst for the exotic was quenched. She was hooked.
“The group of us drove in a car from New York to LA,” Gilliland said. “[When the trip was over] they went home. I stayed. I cashed in my Greyhound ticket. That wasn’t part of the plan.”
