All Malibu schools are closed today, Friday, Oct. 25, in light of the forecasted high winds, high temperatures and possible power shutoffs for Western Malibu and Point Dume alike.
As of 6 a.m., Southern California Edison had not shut power off in Malibu.
After-school activities also are canceled, and Boys and Girls Club locations closed.
“We have also heard concerns from parents and staff and understand the stress and anxiety that Malibu residents are feeling nearly a year since the Woolsey fire, and feel this is the best decision under the circumstances, for tomorrow,” states a letter from the district, signed by Superintendent Ben Drati and Malibu Pathway Director Isaac Burgess.
Public Safety Power Shutoffs are again a possibility Sunday night, from 6 p.m. to midnight. On Sunday evening, the district will decide if school is to be in session on Monday.
