As of Monday evening, the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District said it expects for all of its schools to be in session Tuesday, Oct. 29.
“All SMMUSD schools and boundaries are clear of the mandatory evacuation area of the Getty Fire,” an email from Superintendent Ben Drati states. “These factors led us to the decision to open tomorrow.”
Parents who prefer to have their students at home can call their school’s office to inform them of the absence, and do so “without jeopardizing attendance records,” the district notes.
SMMUSD said it will notify parents by 5:45 a.m. Tuesday if schools are to close.
“We are working to maintain the cleanliness of interior and exterior spaces while our communities experience debris from wind and fire events,” Drati further states. “We are taking all necessary precautions to keep students safe based on air quality levels. Determination for outdoor activities during the school day will be based on these protocols and cleanliness of surfaces on a site-by-site basis, by our principals.”
