On New Year's Day, Thursday, Jan. 1, a grenade was found on the beach of Paradise Cove.

At 1:13 p.m. the grenade was reported to the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Department. Deputies called in Arson and Explosives and the beach was promptly evacuated.

Officials believe the grenade had washed up onto the shore. It was removed and no injuries were reported.

Deputies are still investigating the origin of the grenade and whether or not it was active.
