3:31 pm PDT April 11, 2016

The second annual Malibu Guitar festival will rock Malibu April 28-May 1 with a lineup of nationally recognized and acclaimed artists who will perform in the city with 27 miles of scenic beauty.

The four-day festival, presented by D ‘Angelico Guitars, launches with an opening fundraiser 6:30 p.m.-midnight on April 28 at Casa Escboar Malibu. Last year, the inaugural fundraiser raised more than $30,000 for Boys & Girls Club of Malibu, Little Kids Rock and the Malibu Special Education Foundation.

The festival itself will kickoff with a concert at Casa Escobar at 9 p.m. on Friday, April 29, heading into the early morning of Saturday, April 30. Expected during this concert are Richie Sambora and Orianthi, and special guest Albert Lee, Laurence Juber and The Maze with Michelle Wolf.

The festival continues noon-10 p.m. on Saturday April 30, at the Malibu Village. As the main day of the festival, performances are expected from Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Robert Randolph, The Empty Hearts, Cody Simpson, Fabrizio Sotti, Dale Watson, Michael Hayes, Laurence Juber, Marcus Eaton, Kenneth Brian Band with Steve Ferrone, as well as Zeparella.

Beginning at 10 p.m. on April 30, an all-star jam with to-be-announced special guest performances will commence and play through 1 a.m.

The festival will close witha 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Guitar Brunch on Sunday, May 1. The event will feature a “Beatles Gear” presentation by musician/author Andy Babiuk from his book, which is the first to tell the full story of how the Beatles members made their music – including details down to exactly which guitars, drums, amplifiers and keyboards were used at key points in the band’s revolutionary career. Additional highlights include an art exhibit curated by Robert Knight featuring exclusive photos of Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, among others, and a performance of Beatles songs by Wing’s guitarist Laurence Juber.

Malibu Guitar Festival co-founder Doug Deluca, a music and guitar lover who lives in Malibu, partnered with his good friend John Watkin in an effort to bring a high level music and entertainment experience to the seaside town. The duo saw an opportunity to bring the community together, by securing globally renowned, award-winning musicians to perform, while also supporting local musicians and giving back to charity.

Deluca is a co-executive producer for “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” Watkin, a longtime Malibu resident, is co-owner of the Emmy-winning Planet Grande Pictures. Together, they leveraged their collective networks to bring the 2015 inaugural festival to fruition.

“The iconography of the guitar and the backdrop of Malibu are a perfect combination for this beautiful event inspired by a passion for music and a love of community,” said DeLuca. “The artists and supporters that have come together will insure the event’s success and growth well into the future.”

DeLuca also said the event, in several ways, is all about love.

“John Watkin and I put it together for the love of music, the love of the guitar and the love of community,” he said. “We figured that since this would be all about love, why not make it about charity as well? So, we feel we’re creating and growing something that gives people enrichment and enjoyment, and gives back to less fortunate people who really need it.”

The community and outlying regions have fully embraced their concept, which was recently awarded with a Malibu Times’ “Dolphin Award” in recognition of their service, commitment and contribution to Malibu.
