Malibu High School softball knows how to deliver a fourth inning.

The Sharks sparked two fourth-inning 11-run rallies against Oakwood on the road on Thursday, March 13, and Campbell Hall at home on Friday, March 14, winning both games, 21-4 and 26-5 respectively.

Rachel McConnell led the charge for the Sharks against Oakwood, hitting two homeruns in the fourth inning to kickoff the double-digit rally.

McConnell also proved a force to be reckoned with on the field, pitching two scoreless innings on the mound for Malibu.

Kaila Miller, Emma Gallagher and Molly Armitage chipped in another four hits each to reach the team’s 29-hit total for the game.

The Sharks brought that momentum into Friday’s game against Campbell Hall, maintaining three five-run innings and then answering Campbell Hall’s two runs in the fourth inning with 11 of their own.

McConnell and Molly Gallagher each scored five runs, followed closely by Emma Gallagher with four of her own.  Xena Amirani knocked in two big hits for the Sharks.

McConell again dominated on the mound, allowing only one run to score in the three innings she pitched. Cristina Batres contributed three strike-outs in the two innings she led the team on the mound.

The Sharks will begin league play at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, March 21, at home against Cate.
