There are various measures beachgoers can take to limit threats to snowy plovers, which are slightly larger than a sparrow and often blend in with the sand.

Visitors to the Malibu Lagoon as of late will most likely have noticed the orange plastic fencing, along with a roped-off area between the lagoon and the ocean.
