“Matthew took his life because he was hopeless and depressed,” Gigi Awbrey, mother of Matthew Awbrey, wrote in an email to the Surfside News. “The many antidepressant anxiety medications the ‘experts’ were giving him — and telling him you’re bipolar, you’re crazy, you’re paranoid, you have anxiety issues — were not addressing his core problems of alcohol addiction. They were not working for him. Matthew is the poster child of what is very sadly happening in our society today. ... Good [old-fashioned] therapy and long-term treatment are giving away to the instant ‘cure all’ of pill(s) that actually is much, much [more] harmful and even deadly, as [was] Matthew’s case.”
