Pepperdine University is gearing up for its annual Waves of Flags display, where 2,887 American flags are flown in tribute for each American life lost in the 9/11 terror attacks.

Among the victims: Pepperdine alumnus Thomas E. Burnett Jr., a passenger on United Flight 93.

Over the first 12 years since the installation's launch at Pacific Coast Highway and Malibu Canyon Road, the public was able to wander the seemingly countless rows of flags.
