On a crisp, clear Sunday morning in Malibu, attendees gathered at the entrance of the Malibu Lagoon for a free monthly walk sponsored by the Santa Monica Bay Audubon Society.

As bird watchers gathered March 24, toting hi-tech telescopes, binoculars and birding guides, they started down the path to the lagoon, interspersed with surfers and beachgoers.
