Home after home after home was destroyed in the Woolsey Fire, leaving many broken possessions amidst Malibu’s charred landscape. Some victims of the fire gathered for a free two-day workshop, Sacred Articles of Fire — Healing Through Mosaic Making, to regenerate remnants left by the inferno and create new artistic expressions.

Thank you so much for a beautiful article Barbara Burke! Your writing is as poetic as the mosaics produced by the participants. I do want to clarify that the “fragility” reference was about a few of the sacred objects rescued from the fire ash, not the participants. In fact, I found the strength of the participants inspiring. I am humbled by their courage and strength. It was an honor for myself, Tabitha Fronk and Kat Winegard to facilitate.
