The 101 Freeway is an almost insurmountable barrier for wildlife, but National Park Service researchers recently documented a successful crossing by the mountain lion known as P-55.

The big cat, one of the tiny population of native Malibu-area mountain lions, is only the fourth to survive the freeway crossing since the park service began keeping records on the local mountain lion population 15 years ago.
