Malibu High School softball coach Mark Cooley has been drilling his players on a set of defensive plays since the season began. Armed with a roster that included seven girls who had never thrown a softball before in their lives, the learning curve was admittedly steep, he said.
But, on Thursday, May 14, it was one of those plays that won their final game of the season against Villanova, 10-7.
“I couldn’t think of a better way to end the season than with that play,” Cooley said, smiling.
