I’m not the world’s most positive person by any stretch of the imagination, but to help me get through this time of uncertainty with coronavirus I’ve found myself looking for the good in the situation as best I can.

I have been able to tackle spring cleaning with a new vigor and reorganized my basement, kitchen, closet and just about any other nook and cranny in my house.

I have found myself cooking more during the week, enjoying the time I get to be a little more creative in the kitchen.

My four-legged feline coworker, Deuces, has also loved the extra snuggles and naps on my laptop charger.

But I also know the past few weeks certainly have not been easy on anyone - from students and parents to local business owners and essential workers – but keeping a positive attitude and mind is vital to anyone’s well being during this time. It’s easy to get consumed by the amount of information coming in, but sometimes you need to work more on focusing on the good things rather than the bad.

We have been working tirelessly to provide you the most up-to-date information with coronavirus in Malibu, but we also need your help. We want to be able to share more stories like Susie Sunwoo at Point Dume Cleaners who has hand-sewn more than 500 masks for customers and the community or Malibu Farm who donated 650 meals this week to Los Angeles area healthcare workers. These are just two examples of the good happening in the Malibu community and we know there are more out there.

This quote from Mr. Rogers is one of my favorites: “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’”

I ask that you help us find those who are helping others in this time of need. We’d also love if you’d share what you are up to during the Safer at Home order – maybe you are baking family recipes, conducting in-home science experiments or just doing a family game night for entertainment. We’d love to share your story.
