With Mother’s Day right around the corner, I have seen several people share memes on social media channels reminding dads that children will not be bringing home handmade Mother’s Day gifts from school this year. It made me laugh because I can remember making some sort of Mother’s Day craft each year at school or a construction paper card.
This week, I wrote a story about Malibu Country Mart shops – Malibu Colony Company and Room at the Beach – who both are offering some unique personalized shopping opportunities and it was during my conversation with Elizabeth Lamont, owner of Room at the Beach, that the headline for this piece came about.
“Our motto is ‘The celebration must go on,’” Lamont said during our interview.
And you know what? She’s right.
We shouldn’t stop celebrating milestones in life due to the effects of the Safer at Home order and the coronavirus pandemic. We should absolutely continue to celebrate, however, the celebrations may look a little bit different. I’ve seen people decorating their cars with balloons and handmade signs to create a birthday parade. I have seen photographers offering front porch portraits for families. A couple of weeks ago, Malibu High School celebrated the senior class by placing signs at every senior’s residence. And with Mother’s Day approaching, we should celebrate moms, grandmas, aunts or any other mother figures. We just need to be mindful to do it safely.
So please feel free to share those milestone celebrations with us - birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, engagements and graduation announcements We are happy to celebrate them with you. Share your celebrations with us by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
