The weekend collapse of a balcony at a beachfront home has prompted an inquiry into possible code violations by the city of Malibu.
On the afternoon of May 8, the wooden structure at the Big Rock area home gave way under the weight of revelers, dumping them to the rocks below.
A video from a nearby home shows the moment the balcony collapsed.
In a statement today, city officials said the home “had a valid short-term rental permit” with the city.
“Malibu Code Enforcement is investigating any potential violations of occupancy limits of that permit or any other issues with that property, and Building and Safety staff are investigating the incident as well,” according to a statement.
Several partygoers were being treated in area hospitals, prompting “wishes for a full and speedy recovery” from city officials.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department declared the home uninhabitable.
