All of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District’s Malibu schools are closed tomorrow, Jan. 15, “in an abundance of caution.”
The announcement comes on the heels of evacuation orders for parts of Malibu as rain is expected to continue tomorrow, bringing potential mud and debris flow to the Woolsey Fire burn area.
“We are fully aware of the educational needs of our students and the number of missed instructional days so far this school year, but at the same time the safety of our students and staff is our top priority,” SMMUSD’s statement said. “We continue to monitor the situation and we are in touch with the City of Malibu, along with other local agencies.”
A special meeting scheduled for tomorrow evening in Malibu, regarding the district’s sustainability plan, also has been canceled.
SMMUSD has not yet decided whether school will be in session Wednesday and Thursday.
