Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel on the ground made quick work of taking control of two fires Thursday night in Malibu.

The first, described as a spot fire, was reported around 9:45 p.m. at Heathercliff and Wandermere roads.

Ten minutes later, witnesses called 9-1-1 with reports of flames off Pacific Coast Highway at Corral Canyon Road. Called the Corral Incident, that blaze was first reported as a half acre in size, burning uphill in winds around 10 mph.

At one point a structure was in the path of the fire, but it was ultimately spared.

Three helicopters were requested, however, all were canceled before arriving on scene.

Authorities estimated the fire could burn about 2 acres. Forward progress was stopped at 10:13 p.m. and most of the responding personnel and equipment were released.

The California Highway Patrol shut down a section of PCH because of the fire.
