School will not be in session today, Nov. 9, at the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District’s Malibu schools or Pepperdine University due to ongoing fires outside of Malibu.
“Faculty and staff who work at the Malibu and Calabasas campuses should not report to work unless they are critical support personnel,” Pepperdine said in its alert.
Malibu's Boys and Girls Club also is closed.
An evacuation is not currently in place for Pepperdine's Malibu campus, but its Calabasas campus is under mandatory evacuation.
The City of Malibu continues to monitor the Woolsey Fire, which has forced mandatory evacuations for areas south of the 101 Freeway, south to Mulholland Highway, between Las Virgenes Road and Westlake Blvd., and north of the 101 Fwy from Valley Vista to Reyes Adobe (areas of Agoura Hills, Calabasas and Westlake Village). Voluntary evacuations have been issued for the entire cities of Westlake Village, Agoura Hills, Calabasas and Hidden Hills, the City states.

Meanwhile, Southern California Edison reported that a power outage in Big Rock, caused by fire activity, began around 12:08 a.m., impacting 2,118 customers. As of 6 a.m., an estimated 1,889 customers are impacted. Power is expected to be restored by 6 p.m. today, according to SCE’s outage map.
