California Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr. declared a state of emergency in counties including Los Angeles County, according to a press release issued Monday, Jan. 23.

Brown's proclamations aim to help communities impacted by severe winter storms by helping to secure funding so that they can respond to and recover from impacts such as "flooding, mudslides, erosion, debris flow, and damage to roads and highways," the release stated.
