Malibu Middle School seventh-grader Charlotte Drummond returned from her prize trip to Washington, D.C., with members of the Los Angeles Lakers staff after winning the Lakers’ “Freedom Through My Eyes” art and essay contest. 

Drummond spent five days in D.C. learning about the founding fathers and site-seeing at the nation’s capital. 

Drummond and the other contest winners were honored at halftime during the Lakers’ March 25 home game.

It took a few wintery, fizzled sunset trips to finally get a little negative tide starfish love here, at the Malibu Pier, in late 2013. Persistence is vital in just about any pursuit in life worth anything, including that ever changing quest for dramatic light on Malibu earth.

Malibu City Councilman Lou La Monte attended a Meals of Wheels event in Santa Monica on March 11.

The organization, which “is dedicated to nourishing and enriching the lives of the home-bound by delivering healthy meals and services that promote self-respect and independent living,” according to its website, has been serving the Malibu and Santa Monica communities for many years.
