City continues summer sports camps

The City of Malibu Parks and Recreation Department is offering a number of sports summer camps and activities for children throughout the months of July and August.

Laser Tag Camp

Laser tag is a team sport played in a safe and exhilarating outdoor area.

Step into this high-tech, laser tag adventure where identity is limited only by imagination. Dodge lasers and create strategy with teammates as you compete for high scores and glory in this futuristic version of capture the flag. Players shoot an invisible and harmless infrared beam.

Sensors will detect when they have been hit. 

This camp runs 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday through Thursday July 21-24 and costs $150 for all four sessions or $40 daily.

Children ages 6 through 13 will meet at Malibu Bluffs Park for this camp.

Basketball Camp

Campers will develop their basketball skills such as shooting, passing, dribbling, rebounding and defensive in a positive and well organized learning environment. 

Age-specific basketball hoops and balls will be used to ensure success.

The instructor for this camp is Andy Meyer, Malibu High School’s basketball coach.

This camp runs 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday through Thursday July 21-24, and costs $150 for all four sessions or $40 daily.

Children ages 6 through 12 will meet at the small gymnasium at Malibu High School for this camp.

Baseball Camps

Players will improve in hitting mechanics, infield play, outfield play, base running, cut-offs, bunting and more. Specialized drills will help each player develop their skills and elevate their level of play. 

Trainings and stations are positions and skill-level specific so each camper gets the most out of each camp.

This camp runs 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday through Thursday July 21-24, and costs $150 for all four sessions or $40 daily.

Children ages 6 through 14 will meet at Malibu Bluffs Park for this camp.

Flag Football Camps

Flag football camp will deliver classic gridiron action in a fun and invigorating training environment. 

Instructors will focus on the core skills of passing, catching and defensive positioning. The objective is to prepare campers to be true champions on and off the gridiron.

This camp runs 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday through Thursday July 21-24 and Aug. 11-14, and costs $150 for all four sessions or $40 daily. 

Children ages 5 through 12 will meet at Malibu Bluffs Park for this camp.

Surf Camp

Aspects Surf Camp will provide superior instruction and a dynamic curriculum while teaching the basics of surfing.

Instructors will professionally teach the skills of surfing while sharing a healthy respect and awareness of the beauty and power of the ocean with a low participant-to-instructor ratio.

Participants must be able to swim and tread water.

Surfboards will be provided if needed.

Check in and out will take place in the Malibu Lagoon parking lot and camps will take place at Surfrider Beach Tower 3.

This camp runs 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday through Thursday July 21-24 and Aug. 4-7, and costs $275 for all four sessions or $70 daily. 

Children ages 7 through 14 will meet at Malibu Surfrider Beach, Tower 3 for this camp.

Tennis Camp

Grab a racquet and spend the morning learning and practicing the game of tennis.

Tennis camp will provide young players the opportunity to improve their tennis game, work hard, make new friends and have fun.

Learn stroke production, serving and footwork through drills and scrimmages.

The instructor for this camp is Bruce Young, Malibu High School’s tennis coach.

This camp runs 9 a.m.-noon, Monday through Thursday July 28-31 and Aug. 4-7, and costs $275 for all four sessions or $70 daily. 

Children ages 5 through 12 will meet at the tennis courts at Malibu High School for this camp.

Volleyball Camp

The week will consist of drills and fun activities designed to help teach and improve the skills necessary for success in the sport of volleyball. 

Learn passing, setting ,serving and hitting, as well as gaining an improved love for the sport.

All levels are welcome and no experience is necessary.

This camp runs 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday through Thursday July 28-31 and costs $150 for all four sessions or $45 daily. 

Children ages 8 through 12 will meet at the small gymnasium at Malibu High School for this camp.

Soccer Camp

Coast to Coast Soccer camps are designs to teach players key techniques for success in soccer.

Campers will focus on a different aspect of the game each day and will receive a soccer jersey, soccer ball, wristband and certificate.

Instructors are recruited from universities throughout Ireland with a minimum of three years coaching experience and 10 years of playing experience.

This camp runs 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday through Friday Aug. 11-15, and costs $159 for all four sessions or $35 daily. 

Children ages 5 through 12 will meet at Malibu Bluffs Park for this camp.
