Every year, the western snowy plover arrives in Malibu. 

The tiny shorebird breeds on Pacific coastal beaches, and Malibu is home to three designated western snowy plover sites: the Malibu Lagoon, a small section of Dan Blocker State Beach, and Zuma Beach. Local activists have had a key role in trying to save this species.
