Early Morning Beach Joggers Will Also Develop Strong Kidneys and Bladders

• Budget Woes Lead to Reduced Public Restroom Hours

BY BILL KOENEKER

The Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors announced last week budget cuts that will impact beach bathroom hours.

A new cleaning schedule beginning on May 1 will keep some restrooms closed until 11 a.m.

The cause is the new cleaning schedule that begins at 7 in the morning.

"Some restrooms may not be opened and serviced until as late as 11 a.m. year-round by Beaches and Harbors maintenance crews, allowing them to work later into the afternoon when bathroom use peaks," according to an agency press release.

Beaches and Harbors added that during winter months, maintenance staff will only be able to perform one "heavy" cleaning of the restrooms each day. Some beach restrooms will be closed on weekdays and possibly some weekends.

Operation of beach-cleaning equipment, such as mechanical raking of the sand, will continue at present levels, adhering to the same historical summer work schedule, allowing work to be performed before beaches become crowded, according to the media information.
