School Board Meets to Raise ‘R’ Parcel Tax
• CPI Adjustment
BY SUZANNE GULDIMANN
The Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District Board of Education is conducting a public hearing on June 18 at the district offices, 1651 16th Street, in Santa Monica, to discuss a prospective increase to the Measure R 2010-11 special parcel tax.
The district is considering a Consumer Price Index adjustment of 1.4 percent, bringing the total for the existing annual tax to $350.84 per parcel, for a total of approximately $11.8 million for the SMMUSD.
Measure R, passed by voters in 2008, renewed two existing parcel taxes—measures S and Y—that were set to expire.
Measure R included the senior exemption that was part of Measure S and the CPI price index adjustment that was part of Measure Y.
Measure R senior exemption forms are being mailed in early June to prior applicants 65 years and older. The forms must be completed, signed and returned by July 31. Eligible seniors who are not on the list should call 310-450-8338, ext. 269.
