Resident addresses commencement crowd
Former United States Peace Corps Executive and Malibu resident Dr. Paul K. Jhin was the graduation speaker at the San Fernando Valley YouthBuild “Phoenix Rising,” 2014 Commencement Ceremonies on Friday, June 20.
As a Korean American, Jhin has the distinction of having been appointed to executive federal government positions in Washington, D.C., by three U.S. Presidents — Director of the Office of Planning, Policy and Analysis for the Peace Corps by President George W. Bush; Executive Assistant to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs by President George H. Bush; and National Advisory Council on Adult Education member by President Gerald Ford.
In addition, Jhin served as Director of the National Asian Pacific Center on Aging and Commissioner of California Postsecondary Education Commission.
As an educational leader he served as Assistant Superintendent for Educational Technology in the District of Columbia Public School system and Director of Special Projects at the U.S. Department of Education.
Jhin has addressed the e-Learning Africa Conference, 2009 in Senegal and 2010 in Zambia, International Conference on Volunteer Efforts, 2002 in Seoul, Korea, Asian Model United Nations conference, 2010 in Seoul, Korea, United Nations Global Alliance for ICT for Development conferences, 2009 and 2010, UCLA Model United Nations conference, 2012.
