At approximately 9:40 a.m. on Friday, July 25, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Malibu Search and Rescue team received a rescue call for two injured hikers above Tapia Park in Malibu.

Malibu SAR, Los Angeles County Fire and California State Parks, responded and determined that the two 12 year olds — a boy from Santa Maria and a girl from Ventura — would need to be airlifted off the cliff.

LASD Air Rescue 5 SAR helicopter responded and performed the rescue, extracting the female who was disoriented and suffering from heat exhaustion.

The two pre-teens were hiking with a larger party of children and adults from the Salvation Army camp.

While Air Rescue 5 headed to UCLA Trauma Center with the young girl, Los Angeles County Fire Copter 16 arrived and winched out the boy, who suffered an ankle injury.

Minor injuries were sustained by two firefighters who had hiked up the cliff side as well.

All personnel were relaesed from the scene at approximately 11:30 a.m.
