A man suspected of firing shots at a law enforcement officer near De Soto Avenue and Nordhoff Street in Chatsworth, was captured on Wednesday, July 30, after a high-speed chase that ended at Malibu’s Bluffs Park, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department said in a press release.

The chase, which involved officers from Los Angeles Police Department, the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station and the California Highway Patrol, began at approximately 7 p.m. when gunfire broke out between the suspect and what is believed to be off-duty law enforcement. The chase eventually made its way to Malibu by approximately 7:45 p.m., when traffic on Pacific Coast Highway was halted in both directions, with road closures on Malibu Road and Malibu Canyon Road.

The suspect abandoned his vehicle, a black BMW, near Bluffs Park and began traveling on foot. By 8 p.m., law enforcement had the suspect detained on a hillside below the park, but traffic throughout Malibu remained snared through much of the evening.

No injuries were reported in the chase, despite reports of possible gunfire near Malibu Road.

The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department has yet to reveal the identity of the suspect.
