Malibu High School junior Hali Norris returned home from playing with the Santa Monica Patriots U16 girls fast pitch softball team in Gillette, Wyoming for the Amateur Softball Association’s Western National Championship.

The team had an overall record of 6-1, and a 5-0 record in bracket play, to bring home the 2014 ASA Western National Championship.

The Patriots had a dominating outing with scores of 16-0 versus the Gillette Blue Jays, 17-7 versus the Colorado Adrenaline, 15-6 versus Belmont Blast and 9-6 versus El Segundo.

El Segundo, who eliminated the Patriots in the State Championship last month, was winning the game 6-4 in the top of the seventh inning, when Norris came up to bat with two outs. With the game on the line, two runners on and two strikes, Norris hit a line drive to bring in two runs which tied up the game. The Patriots then held El Segundo in the bottom of the seventh, which lead to an international tie breaker, where they won 9-6. This win placed the Patriots directly into the championship game. The team would ultimately face El Segundo — who came up through the losers bracket — in the game for the National Championship.

The Patriots continued their dominating play, which lead them to a 12-7 victory and the National Championship.
