The Malibu High School baseball team lost in a pair of games, 3-0 and 9-5, against rivals Santa Monica High School on the road on Friday, March 21.

The double-header came on the heels of another tough double header for the Sharks on March 15 against Division I competitor Burroughs, in which Malibu fell to the Indians 5-4 and 9-3.

Both sets of games showed the Sharks another side of competition, with Malibu just having come off a hot streak, decisively capturing the Southern California Invitational for the third year in a row. The Sharks possessed an undefeated 5-0 preseason record until they confronted Burroughs and Santa Monica on the road.

On March 21, Santa Monica pitcher Jonathan Rakuljic threw five shut out innings in the first game against the Sharks to grant Santa Monica its 3-0 victory.

The Sharks attempted a comeback in the second game, scoring five runs of their own. But the Vikings bested Malibu once again, knocking in nine runs to sweep the Sharks.

The Sharks will continue with preseason play at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, when they face Cathedral High School at Malibu.

Malibu will travel to Santa Clara for its first conference game at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2.
