Local control of Coastal Development Permits may soon get tighter.

The Malibu City Council discussed and unanimously OK’d an amendment to CDP extension parameters at a Monday, Oct. 23 regular meeting. After a fair amount of discussion, the council landed on five years as a reasonable time frame for a developer to get a shovel in the ground. The first three years are covered under the initial CDP application, and up to two years’ worth of permit extensions will be allowed, pending Malibu Planning Commission approval.
