Business Briefs: Encore Malibu to move to new Malibu location

After 24 years in its current home, the Encore women’s clothing boutique is moving a few doors down to a new location in Malibu Country Mart at the end of the month. The business expects to be open for business in its new space at 3900 Cross Creek Road, Suite 7 by the Memorial Day weekend.

The business will also offer a 40 percent off sale in its current space up until the move.

The business will host a champagne reopening party at noon on Wednesday, June 7. All are invited to stop by, see the new store location and enjoy a glass of bubbly.

PAIGE boutique opened May 7

Malibu Country Mart’s new PAIGE boutique, located at 3835 Cross Creek Road, officially opened Sunday, May 7.

The boutique offers the brand’s signature denim staples for women and men. It also features a Summer 2017 lifestyle collection, including knits, wovens, outwear, leather, accessories and more.

Malibu SAR joins evacuation exercise

The Malibu Search and Rescue Team participated in a full scale evacuation exercise in Topanga Canyon Saturday, May 6.

“The greater Topanga Canyon area always presents tremendous evacuation challenges during brush fires,” the Malibu SAR said in a Facebook post. 

More than a dozen agencies and 200 personnel participated in the exercise, the team noted.

National Parks boast economic perks

A recent National Park Service report shows that 906,605 park visitors spent an estimated $39.4 million in the local community while visiting Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area in 2016. That spending supported 557 jobs and contributed $54.3 million to the local economy, according to NPS.

The peer-reviewed visitor spending analysis was conducted by economists Catherine Cullinane Thomas of the U.S. Geological Survey and Lynne Koontz of the NPS.  

The report shows that, nationwide, 331 million park visitors spent $18.4 billion in communities within 60 miles of a national park. This spending supported 318,000 jobs; 271,544 of those jobs are found in these gateway communities. The cumulative benefit to the U.S. economy was $34.9 billion.

Swissx product comes to select Malibu stores

Los Angeles County Office of the Assessor earns award

The National Association of Counties recognized the Office of the Assessor of the County of Los Angeles with a 2017 Achievement Award which honors innovative, effective county government programs that enhance services for residents.

NACo recognizes the Assessor’s new online portal, which was launched to improve public access to County of Los Angeles property data. The Assessor’s Online Portal enables anyone with internet access to find detailed information on nearly 2.6 million real property parcels in Los Angeles County in an accessible and easy-to-read format. The modernized, intuitive, and searchable website portal provides access to comprehensive property information and over 30 years of assessment history.

Thirty-one departments in the County of Los Angeles were awarded 2017 Achievement Awards.
