Woman Foils Sexual Assault at Point Dume Headlands
BY ANNE SOBLE
A female jogger, 35, believed by residents in the area to be someone who regularly runs on the Point Dume Headlands, was reportedly assaulted in the state park on Friday, March 12.
The alleged assailant is described as male, medium complexioned, 35-40 years old, 5’10”, 200 lbs., stocky build, light colored eyes and no front teeth. He was wearing a black leather jacket and blue jeans and no shoes.
According to the official Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station statement, at approximately 11:55 a.m., a call was received from an informant who stated that she had been asked to assist someone who had been “attacked and possibly sexually assaulted.”
The victim told the responding sheriff’s deputies that she had walked to the edge of the cliff on the headlands, and was grabbed from behind by the suspect who attempted to sexually assault her.
The victim said she struggled with the suspect for several minutes before she was able to break away, run down a hillside and jump/slide down the cliff.
The suspect did not follow her, but had taken her car keys and drove off in the vehicle in an unknown direction. The vehicle is a 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser, white with silver trim, with California license plate number 6CHF554.
The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment. She sustained abrasions and bruises predominantly from the descent down the face of the cliff.
LASD Crime Lab personnel processed evidence at the crime scene. Anyone with additional information about this incident is asked to contact Detective Tom Lewis at the Lost Hills Sheriff Station at 818-878-1808.
