• Track Santa’s Worldwide Travels at www.noradsanta.com •
The skies over Malibu may be dark and cloudy on Christmas Eve Day, but the North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, which is charged with monitoring the air space over the continent, assures Malibuites that nothing will impede the arrival of Santa Claus in time for Christmas.
NORAD assigned a special team of Santa trackers to follow the man in the red suit as soon as he started his journey early Wednesday morning at the International Date Line in the Pacific Ocean.
Santa Claus traditionally visits the South Pacific first, then goes to New Zealand and Australia, but the specifics of Old St.Nick’s route is kept secret, and he is not required to file a flight plan.
Even so, Santa has full clearance to enter the air space above all of the nations of the world.
He is assured safe passage until he completes his annual trek to the homes of believers, whether they call him Santa Claus, Weihnachtsmann, Dyed Moroz, Papá/Pêre Noël, Julenissen, Dun Che Lao Ren, Baba Chagaloo, or any of his many names.
Interested Malibuites can follow Santa’s travels at the special NORAD Web site, www.noradsanta.com, which can be viewed in English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Chinese and Japanese.
Children of all ages are able to follow Santa’s route online with a Google two-dimensional map or, in 3D, with Google Earth, where his sleigh can be observed as it goes through many familiar locales.
Over 20 million people are expected to check the site today. Would that many people be interested if Santa Claus was only folklore?
Merry Christmas — Peace, Love, and Joy
