Point Death Cause Still Pending

An official explanation for the cause of death of Jheryl Busby, 59, the former Motown executive who was found dead in his hot tub last week on Point Dume, is being deferred, pending the results of toxicology tests, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office.
Busby led a revival of the famous record label while president and chief executive of the company from 1968 to 1995. His death was first attributed to possible accident, or natural causes, but more tests have been requested.
Busby was forced out of Motown in 1995, according to published reports, after a legal dispute with MCA Records.
Four years ago, he founded Def Soul Classics Records, signing Patti LaBelle, the Isley Brothers, and other successful performers.
