The Advocates for Malibu Public Schools, along with an activist and the Pico Neighborhood Association, filed a lawsuit against the City of Santa on Tuesday, April 12, alleging that its at-large election system violates the California Voting Rights Act.

The lawsuit states that the at-large system — which allows officials to be elected by the entire voting population in Santa Monica — denies minority groups from representation in various City positions, such as the City Council.
